Is Amy's boyfriend dead? Or worse, is the man she loves responsible for stealing the missing gold? Determined to discover the truth, Amy and her sister set out on a high seas adventure becoming entangled in a web of lies and deceit. Amy is about to discover that someone used her for what turns out to be a much larger conspiracy.
Deep Gold was shot over on location in Cebu, Philippines. From the very beginning, the film was set to feature the beauty of the Philippines and highlights some of the most stunning tropical and diving locales in all of Southeast Asia.
Billed as an action adventure, Deep Gold also features some of the hottest upcoming talent in Asia anchored by Bebe Pham, the Vietnamese Supermodel turned actress in her first starring role. ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Deep Gold was shot between December 2006 and June 2007. Although the actual production shoot lasted only 30 days during the summer of 2007, production delays and a ballooning budget forced the production to be postponed early on. Amazingly, the overall shoot lasted well over 100 days. During the hiatus from February to April, much of the crew was replaced for the final shoot.
Among the new crew was Rick Robinson serving as Director of Photography. On his first day of shooting, Rick showed a frame to director Michael Gleissner who started rolling a few frames. Because Steven Spielberg is also famous for this technique, Rick quickly dubbed the Deep Gold director "Gleissenberg".
One of the more difficult scenes was the library shoot because of its technical stunts and lighting. It took over two weeks to complete the scenes with special stunt actors brought in from Manila.
*Greg Curda, Sound Recordist, was well-known on the set for his expression, Swingin'!
Marinette Lusanta, who was Production Manager for the 1st generation Deep Gold and consequently moved up to 3rd AD, is known in the Philippine show business circuit for her work as Production Manager in the multi-awarded indie film "Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros" (The Blossoming of Maximo
Oliveros)
The Craft Services Production Assistants are well-loved in the set for their concoctions of iced coffee, iced tea, shake in all imaginable flavors, and a host of other summer heat quenchers.
Rick Robinson is surprisingly a hip hop dude at heart. In between scenes, he would sway to R&B music playing in the background and mouth the lyrics of the song. He said he usually screens the songs of his teenage kids before allowing them to listen to the record.
The tightly-knit Camera Department would occasionally shout out their call sign "SOLID!" to signify toughness and stamina despite long hours of grueling camera work and hauling of equipment.
Cebu Congressman Raul del Mar played a bit role as a commissioner who handed out the reward to Jess and Amy.
Veteran Philippine actor Joel Torre played a cameo role in the movie as the father of Jess and Amy.
MG is fond of casting his crew members in bit roles. The location manager and casting director appeared in the funeral scene of Jess' and Amy's father. The 1st AD played the role of the gold flight co-pilot Gary Calderon, while the 3rd AD performed as the Colonel's aide. The BTS still photographer rendered a superb performance as the bartender offering complimentary drinks to Amy and Jess. The Asst. Script Supervisor essayed the role of the storeowner selling newspapers to Jess, and MG's personal assistant gave an outstanding performance as the power utility guy collecting a large amount of unsettled power bill.
The air traffic controllers scene was probably one of the most fun to shoot as the three actors marked their acting debut. The big guy eating burgers is the CG artist for Deep Gold, while the other junior air traffic controller is the front desk officer of the suites where the crew are staying. The boss of the three works as a Senior Systems Administrator for Bigfoot Entertainment.
