Bigfoot Entertainment to produce remake of "Love Stinks". Film will be shot in English and Chinese.
SANTA MONICA, CA (November 05, 2006) - It was announced today that Bigfoot Entertainment has greenlit a remake of the 1999 cult comedy classic Love Stinks and will simultaneously shoot two separate versions - one in English and the other in Chinese, with two sets of separate casts. The announcement was made today by Bigfoot Entertainment CEO Kacy Andrews.
Bigfoot Entertainment Chairman Michael Gleissner is directing both versions of the film while Stephanie Chan is producing both with Bigfoot Entertainment.
The production marks the second time Bigfoot Entertainment has shot a film in two languages. The company is currently in post-production on the much anticipated thriller Irreversi / Hui Lu - which was shot in English and Mandarin Chinese, respectively.
Casting for Love Stinks will begin immediately with Bigfoot Entertainment eyeing an early 2007 start date for principal photography. The film will be shot at Bigfoot Entertainment's production facilities in Cebu, Philippines.
In Love Stinks , Seth, a well-heeled bachelor and struggling sitcom writer, gets more than he bargained for when he finally gets a date with his dream girl Chelsea. Not only is she a gold-digger who desperately wants to get married, she is also a shrewd vixen who is willing to do whatever it takes to lure Seth into her web.
Commented Andrews, "In reintroducing Love Sinks , we're adhering to our unique approach to creating films that strongly appeal to both Asian and Western audiences. This is a fun, broad ranging comedy with global crossover appeal and we want to take full advantage of this opportunity."
Love Stinks will be the second feature directed by Gleissner ( Irreversi ). He began his foray into directing with a series of music videos. As Executive Producer on Bigfoot Entertainment-funded films such as the award winning 3 Needles (Lucy Liu), East Broadway (Margaret Cho), Shanghai Kiss (Kelly Hu) and the recent The Curiosity of Chance (Tad Hilgenbrinck), Gleissner has decided to up his creative ante by helming both versions of the film.
The original film stars French Stewart, Bridgett Wilson, Tyra Banks and Jason Bateman and was directed by Jeff Franklin. The film was released by Independent Artists in 1999. |
